The University of Vermont Medical Center, formerly Fletcher Allen Health Care, together with the University of Vermont College of Medicine and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, is Vermont's academic medical center. Located in Burlington, The UVM Medical Center is a not-for-profit hospital that serves as a regional referral center – providing advanced care to approximately one million people in Vermont and northern New York – and as a community hospital for approximately 150,000 residents in Chittenden and Grand Isle counties. It holds a top 10 ranking nationally among university hospitals for quality and accountability and ranks No. 1 in patient safety. Our primary, secondary and tertiary services cover every major area of medicine. We have the region’s only Level 1 trauma center, The University of Vermont Children’s Hospital, The University of Vermont Cancer Center, the only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Vermont, and comprehensive cardiovascular services and stroke treatment.
